Learn the meaning of ‘shoplifting’ and how to use it. Check it out now!
Hi, I’m Joel. In this short video,
I’m going to talk about the term “shoplifting.”
So, a shop is like a store, and lifting is raising something up.
So, what is shoplifting? Like lifting up a store? Not exactly.
So, the term “shoplifting” may surprise you,
but it means that you are stealing something from a store or from a shop.
So, it does not refer to you breaking into the store at night.
Breaking a window, going in and taking stuff, it’s not about that.
It’s about you walking into the store, during their normal business hours,
and sticking something maybe in your pocket, in your bag,
secretly hiding something and leaving the store without paying for that item.
That is shoplifting.
So of course, shoplifting is illegal.
If you are caught by the store security or by the police, you can be prosecuted,
put in jail or fined, something like that.
It just depends on the store and on what country you are in.
So, that’s what shoplifting means. When you go into a store and you steal something when the store is open.
So, I hope that you enjoyed this fast, quick lesson.
