How do you pronounce ‘been’ and ‘being’? What is the correct pronunciation?

Watch this video to learn how to pronounce ‘being’ and ‘been’ correctly!

Hi, I’m Joel. In this short lesson, I want to help you with the pronunciation of the words “been” and “being.”

These words are a bit difficult for many English students.

So let’s see if I can help you pronounce them correctly.

First, we are going to look at “been” – B-E-E-N. “Been” has the iiii… been.

It has the same pronunciation as “bin” – such as a trash bin.

Keep in mind that I’m an American and I have the American pronunciation.

However, some people in the UK, maybe about half of the people more or less, say it slightly differently.

They pronounce it more like ee – kind of like the food, beans.

Now, we’re going to look at “being.” Now, this is similar, but it has the ee sound. Bee-ing.

So it basically has 2 syllables. Bee-ing. Being. But of course as you hear, you have to join them together – being.

And as you say the -ing sound, it might help you to try to have the “gah” (sound) at the end – bee-ing.

You hear that little sound at the end? To make sure that you’re pronouncing the g at the end.

All right, I hope that this was useful for you and that now you can distinguish the difference between “been” and “being.”
