Hi, my name is Jessica. I’m an English tutor, and in today’s lesson,
we’re going to be talking about English slang. And the slang word for today is “crash.”
Okay, so you may be wondering in what context would I use the word crash?
So there are actually two different ways you would use the word crash in slang.
So, let’s say that you worked for 15 hours straight. You may say,
“Oh my goodness, when I get home I’m going to crash.”
Okay, so in this context, that means that you are incredibly tired and you’re going to go home
and sleep because you are exhausted.
All right, the next way you could use crash as English slang as in to “crash your party”
or there’s a movie called Wedding Crashers.
So, what that means is basically, you’re going to show up somewhere uninvited.
I have actually been at an event where somebody crashed the party.
It was a bachelorette party, all the girls were having a great time and all of the sudden,
the mom and all of her friends of the bride shows up unannounced and uninvited and crashed the party.
The bride was incredibly upset about this because it was an unplanned, very unpleasant experience for her.
So her mom crashed her bachelorette party.
Okay, so just a word to you moms out there, probably not a good idea.
So remember, crash can be used in two ways:
One is when you’re really tired, you’re going to go home and crash or fall asleep.
And two, to crash your party – so show up unannounced and uninvited and maybe ruin everybody else’s fun.
All right, so I hope this lesson has been helpful for you and that you tune in again for more lessons with Jessica.
